§ 03About this asset
Unity's own Build Report gives you a size number. It doesn't tell you why the number is what it is, what's pulling a given asset into the build, or how the build changed since last week. BuildLens reads the same report Unity already generates and turns it into something you can act on. What BuildLens Does BuildLens renders every packed asset as a proportionally sized, color-coded treemap, so the assets actually taking up space are the ones that stand out. Selecting any asset shows its full dependency chain in both directions — what it depends on, and what pulled it into the build — with configurable depth so you can go as shallow or as deep as the question requires. Every analysis is saved automatically, so you can compare any two builds and see exactly what was added, removed, or changed, with size deltas for each. Primary Use Cases Tracking down what's inflating a build after a size regression. Confirming that removing an asset or system actually removes its dependents from the build. Reviewing build composition before a submission deadline. Comparing builds across a release cycle to catch size creep early. Benefits Because analysis runs automatically after every player build, the data is already there when you go looking for it — no separate export or manual step. Because every run is saved as a snapshot, you're never comparing today's build to a guess about what last week's build looked like. Who It's For Any Unity developer shipping a project where build size matters — mobile, WebGL, or any platform with a size budget — and anyone who has ever wanted a straight answer to "what's actually in this build." Workflow Open the window from Tools > BuildLens > Open BuildLens. Run a player build, or load the built-in demo dataset to explore the interface without one. Analysis runs automatically after a successful build; the Overview tab shows the treemap and asset list as soon as it completes. Notes BuildLens has no runtime component and adds nothing to your player build — every part of it runs inside the Editor only. Full offline documentation ships with the package. BuildLens is an independent, third-party tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Unity Technologies. Supported OS: runs wherever the Unity Editor itself runs (Windows, macOS, Linux). Documentation Discord Support
